Celebrating our culture, our heritage

I have had time to reflect on the events of the last week or so, concerning the CPS decision to no longer celebrate Columbus Day on the day designated as a federal holiday. All ethnic groups have a right to celebrate what they believe in. How did things go so wrong? With Indigenous People’s Day already on the calendar the last day of September, signed into law by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, why are we debating this? Can’t we celebrate both on their own days already designated? Does this action by CPS open the door to eliminating other ethnic holidays? Who benefits from erasing or rewriting history? What are we teaching our children by doing that? Many questions here. There is so much to think about. Maybe CPS has the answers.
